Open to: (a) applicants from all countries holding at least an M.Sc. with 2 years experience in physics or mathematics; (b) national of developing countries, aged under 28, with an M.Sc. (or an exceptionally good B.Sc.) in physics or mathematics; a good knowledge of specialized English is required; (c) Nationals of and working in developing countries, aged under 28, with a University degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering; good basic mathematical knowledge and specialized English is required.
Academic requirements: (b) M.Sc.or exceptionally good B.Sc.) in physics or mathematics; (c) university degree in physics, mathematics, computer science or engineering.
Age limit Max: (b) and (c) 28 years of age;
Held: in Italy.
Duration: (a) 1 to 10 weeks; (b) 1 year (courses begin in September); (c) 1 year (courses begin in October).
Fees: tuition free.
Financial assistance: (a) scholarships covering living and/or travel expenses are granted only to scientists from developing countries; (b) and (c) monthly stipend plus travel expenses where applicable.

ICCROM Conversation Courses
Study Domains: architecture, arts, musicology and musicography
Programmes: specialist courses in various conversation subjects.
Description: subjects change each year and are taught in courses, seminars and Workshops; recent courses include development of conversation of museology and training of teachers, training of conservator-restorers, integrated territorial and urban conservation, wood conservation technology, stone conversation, conversation of immovable heritage in Africa, architectural records, inventories, information systems and conversation.
Open to: preferably nationals of the ICCROM member countries, aged 25 to 50; many courses have their own requirements.
Financial assistance: limited availability.
Languages: English or French.

Research grants and postdoctoral fellowships:

  • Study domains: earth science, mathematics, physics.
  • Scholarships: (a) research grants; (b) research grants; (c) postdoctoral fellowships.
  • Description: (a) physics of condensed matter; physics and energy; earth and environmental sciences; physics of the living state; physics and technology; (b) physics of condensed matter, physics of high and intermediate energies, mathematics, microprocessors, communications, radiopopagation; c) physics of high and intermediate energies, physics of condensed matter, mathematics.
  • Open to: (a) applicants from all developing countries members of the United Nations. Minimum qualifications: M.Sc. with 2 years experience, Ph.D. an asset; (b) nationals from UN, IAEA or UNESCO Member States, with at least an M.Sc. in physics or mathematics plus 2 years experience; (c) nationals from UN, IAEA or UNESCO Member States with a Ph.D. in physics or mathematics; good knowledge of specialized English required.
  • Place of Study: (a) academic and industrial laboratories in Italy; (b) and (c) at ICTP.
  • Duration: (a) 1 year (plus 6 to 8 months extension); (b) 1 to 12 months; (c) 1 year (renewable).
  • Value: (a) round-trip contribution, monthly salary and allowances; amount of stipend depends on qualifications and seniority; (b) and (c) monthly stipend, round-trip where applicable, and allowances according to length of visit.

Programs: (a) Master of Arts programme in economic development and planning leading to the degree of M.A. in economic policy and management; (b) sectoral specialization courses; (c) tailor-made economic management training workshops.
Descriptions: (a) provides a solid mastery of analytical and technical skills necessary to handle policy issues in macroeconomic management, structural adjustment, growth and sustained development in African economies; (b) provision of training on planning and management of priority sectors of the African economy and on other key themes in economic development in the following areas: agricultural policy analysis, industrial development, long-term perspective studies (NLTPS), science and technology policy analysis and gender in development; (c) covering policy analysis and strategic management, debt and foreign exchange management, project analysis and management, capital markets and private sector development, economic reform (design, analysis and management), and economic cooperation and integration.
Open to: nationals of African countries with first degree (B.A.) or equivalent in economics or related discipline with a minimum of 2 year’s experience in government or an institution dealing with development issues or involved in implementation of economic policies at the national, sectoral or project levels; candidates must be nominated by government agencies or non-governmental developmental agencies.
Duration: (a) 18 months; (b) 3 months each; (c) depends on client’s request.
Financial assistance: according to the resolutions of IDEP’S Governing Council, UNDP Governing Council and the ECA Conference of Ministers of Development and Planning, fellowships covering allowances and travel expenses can be financed from various bilateral and multilateral sponsoring agencies, e.g. country UNDP-IPF or ACBF funds, World Bank, French Agency for Development, ILO, FAO, CFTC, USAID, IDRC, CIDA, GTZ, etc.; stipends include prorate monthly living allowance, allocation for books, medical and travel expenses and tuition fee.
