Financial assistance: assistance to qualified students for minimum terms required for a degree programme, to cover any or all of the following: tuition and fees, bursary, textbooks and travel grants; awards are made on the principle that students must contribute to the cost of their education from their personal resources, as fas as possible. - Value: a stipend of Baht 30,000 per month; round-trip economy airfare from the city of origin to Bangkok; no provision for travel expenses of family members; postdoctoral fellows will be provided office space and access to the library and other academic facilities of AIT.

- Description: (a) and (b) priority to community health, especially maternal and child care, nutrition, orthopaedics, diseases of the ear, nose and throat, eye diseases, tropical medicine.
- Open to: (a) and (b) senior medical students (undergraduate) from approval medical schools within the Commonwealth for an elective period elsewhere in the Commonwealth.
- Place of study: (a) and (b) in hospitals or other medical establishments in a Commonwealth country other than candidate’s own, preferably in Third World.
- Duration: (a) and (b) preference is given to short-term attachments of 5 to 10 weeks.
- Value: (a) and (b) £1,000 (sterling) to cover part of the travel, subsistence and local costs of the student.

Canada Memorial Foundation Scholarships (2): - Study Domains: all major fields.
- Scholarships: Canada Memorial Foundation Scholarships.
- Description: unrestricted subjects.
- Open to: must be United Kingdom citizen and holder of first degree or equivalent (at least upper second class honours), or undergraduate in final year with proven academic record. Some knowledge of Canada required. Age limit normally 30.
- Place of study: any university or other appropriate institution in Canada subject to approval of Canada Memorial Foundation.
- Duration: normally 1 year.
- Languages: English.
Grants for International Collaboration: - Study Domains: arts, literature and civilization, social sciences.
- Scholarships: British Academy/Association of Commonwealth Universities: Grants for International Collaboration.
- Description: studies in humanities and social sciences.
- Open to: staff of ACU member universities for advanced research (postdoctoral level or above). To support international joint activities involving British scholars in collaboration with Commonwealth partners. Priority given to new programmes with an expectation of continued collaboration, or a defined outcome such as planned joint publications.
- Place of study: in Commonwealth countries.
- Duration: 1 year
- Value: up to £5,000 (sterling) per year for research expenditure, travel and living costs in partner country (or countries). Funded jointly by British Academy and ACU.
- Language: English.
- Applications: by 31 May. Only submissions by British partner will be considered. Direct applications will not be taken into account nor acknowledged..
Fellowships, Scholarships: - Study Domains: administration.
- Scholarships: (a) ACU Titular Fellowships; (b) Shared Scholarship Scheme.
- Description: (a) unrestricted (subject to terms of specific Titular awards), but preference for fields in which the needs of developing countries are great; (b) restricted to subjects related to economic and social development.
- Open to: (a) staff of university of ACU membership or of Commonwealth inter-university organization or working in industry, commerce or public service in a Commonwealth country, aged 28-50. It is not a postdoctoral or degree-earning scheme. Small-scale conference attendance within a study programme allowed, but applications will not be considered where major conference attendance is primary or sole purpose; (b) students from developing Commonwealth countries not employed by a government department or parastatal organization. Priority given to candidates from poorer developing countries, and to those under 30. Age limit normally 35.
- Place of study: (a) unless otherwise stipulated, in any Commonwealth country other than candidate’s own; (b) at participating institutions in United Kingdom.
- Duration: (a) up to a maximum of 6 months; (b) 1 year’s taught master’s degree.
- Value: (a) up to a maximum of £5,000 (sterling), according to individual’s circumstances for travel, board, insurance, fees other than bench fees; (b) full cost of study, including return airfare, maintenance and thesis allowance.
- Languages: English.
Applications: (a) candidates must be nominated by executive head of university in ACU membership or by chief executive officer of Commonwealth inter-university organizations; (b) to participating institutions (i.e. not direct to ACU). Closing date: (a) for receipt of nomination in London, 31 May; (b) April/May.
