International and Comparative Law of Human Rights
Study Domains: international law, international relations.
Programmes: advanced courses on the international and comparative law of human rights; annual study session conducted to a diploma of the IIHR and a certificate of participation.
Open to: advanced students in law, political science, human and social sciences, professors and researchers, members of the legal professions and any other profession related to human rights, national and international civil servants, members of non-governmental organisations; applicants must have completed 4 years of university study or the equivalent at the time of the session, o be in possession of a practical knowledge of human rights through work with a governmental agency, intergovernmental or non-governmental organization or similar experience.
Duration: 1 month in July.
Fees: 625 for registration, plus 225 for accommodation during the session.
Financial assistance: partial financial help; requests must reach the Institute before 15 April.

IOI Training Programme
Study Domains: marine biology, marine science, oceanography.
Programmes: Training programme in management and conservation of marine resources.
Description: special emphasis on seabed minerals; 20 to 25 participants.
Open to: candidates from developing countries with at least 2 years experience in a related field, holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university; age under 40; a good working knowledge of English, Spanish or French is required.
Held: in the International Ocean Institute in different countries each year; Canada, Costa Rica (Spanish), Senegal (French), India, China, Malta, South Pacific and Southern Africa.
Fees: US$800 per week per course, plus material costs, excluding air fare.
Financial assistance: International Scholarship Scheme awards; applicants must have government endorsement of nomination to attend course.
Languages: instruction in English, Spanish and French.

Theoretical and Applied Statistics
Study Domains: demography and population studies, statistics.
Programmes: (a) regular courses in theoretical and applied statistics at various levels; (b) special courses on individual basis organized jointly by the International Statistical Institute and the Indian Statistical Institute.
Description: statistical theory and methods; sampling and data analysis techniques; demography and vital statistics; econometric applications.
Open to: (a) graduates from the countries of the Middle East, South and South-East Asia, the Far East, and the Commonwealth countries of Africa (officials from national statistical offices and other government departments and other business organizations with experience; teachers and research workers from universities and other institutions; officials in non-statistical fields, desiring to acquire knowledge in statistics; (b) persons who have already some background in statistics interested in specialization in some branches of statistics.
Academic requirements: knowledge of advanced mathematics, adequate statistical work experience.
Age limit Max: 35 years of age.
Held: Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata (Calcutta), India.
Duration: (a) 10 months (courses begin in June); (b) 3 months to 1 year, at any time of the year.
Fees: (a) class-room, laboratory and field instruction free of charge; living costs: Rs. 5,000 per month; (b) course fee: US$600 per month; lodging and internal transport: US$400 per month.
